FC Wichita (2-1-5, 11 points) at Little Rock Rangers (3-4-1, 10 points)
FC Wichita takes their hold on second place to Little Rock, Arkansas to play the Little Rock Rangers tonight at 7 p.m. The winner gets a stranglehold on second place. That means a home playoff match.
“We haven’t panicked,” Head Coach Bryan Perez said. “We have to keep our eyes on each game.”
FC Wichita has five draws over their first six matches and now have turned the tide. They’ve won two straight with a goal differential of plus-8. One of those wins is against these same Little Rock Rangers.
“It’s tough beating a team multiple times,” goalkeeper Mark Weir said. “We are capable, if we stuck to the game plan.”
FC Wichita’s 2-1 win over Little Rock on June 19 ended a two-game losing streak to the Rangers. Winning in Little Rock could be a challenge. FC Wichita has lost two straight in Little Rock, daring back to May 2016. The last two matches have been back-to-back 1-0 defeats.
FC Wichita is 3-3-1 lifetime against Little Rock. They are 1-2 at War Memorial Stadium.
A win would all but give FC Wichita a home match in the first round of the Heartland playoffs on July 10 at Stryker Stadium, most likely against these Little Rock Rangers. However, you have to take care of business first to get to that point.
“As you see with our results this season, nothing can be taken for granted,” Perez said. “Game by game. That’s how you have to do it.”
The Rangers are currently third place with 10 points in a tightly contested conference. Though Tulsa has clinched the regular season title, it’s the other three playoff spots that are up for grabs. Little Rock hasn’t played since they lost to FC Wichita, 10 days of stewing. Little Rock is winless in their last five matches. Which is the complete opposite of last season, where they ended the season on a massive tear, shutting out clubs left and right.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The stream will be on MyCujoo.tv and we’ll have it shared on all social media channels.
