Ben Andoh put one behind the net and FC Wichita just looked ahead as FC Wichita sealed their first win of the season with a 2-1 win over Little Rock on Wednesday night.
FC Wichita is now 1-1-5 on the season with eight points. They sit comfortably in fourth place on the Heartland table.
“This was big win for us,” Head coach Bryan Perez said. “We will take this and built upon it on Sunday.”
A lot of draws and a disappointing loss to the Demize back in early June had FC Wichita just beaming for a win. They’ve tried numerous times to push it over the net early on. It was Thomas Wells, Marcos Gomes and Blake Arndt who came close early in the match.
A bad turnover led to Little Rock’s Alex Goudron on the break. Mark Weir did everything he could to stop it but Gaudron, one of the leading goal scorers in the past few years in the Heartland, put it past Weir for the early 1-0 Little Rock Advantage.
Arndt answered back in the 36th minute. A pass from Gomes to Arndt put FC Wichita level. After no goals for the first five matches, Arndt has two goals in two matches.
In added time, Ben Andoh found himself on the clean strike. Andoh and Roberto Gomes did the old fashion give-and-go, and Andoh put it in the net for the go ahead goal just before halftime.
Thomas Wells has numerous chances in the second half. Then, Arndt had his moments. FC Wichita was aggressive to their traditional ways. They controlled tempo, possession and the match. They forced Little Rock to play on the heels the entire match.
FC Wichita will turn their attention to Club Athletico St. Louis. They’ll be in town for the annual Wheat State-Harbor House match. It’s a triple header with the FC Wichita women kicking off at 2 p.m. The men’s reserves at 4 p.m. and the Men kick off at 7 p.m.
