FC Wichita (0-0-0, 0 points) at Tulsa Athletic (1-0-0, 3 points)
The Boys in Red are looking for redemption to how last season ended and will start on the road in Tulsa, against Tulsa Athletic. One match at a time for FC Wichita but the goals are ultimately the same: Win the match; win the conference; win the region; win the championship.
Today’s match is scheduled to be on My CujooTV. You can find the stream link on Facebook and Twitter.
FC Wichita is coming off a 8-3-1 season in which saw FC Wichita land the Heartland regular season cup. FC Wichita fell on PKs to the Little Rock Rangers.
Tulsa has already played once this season, beating Little Rock 3-1 on May 4. It was 1-1 at the half but Tulsa scored two second half goals to put the match away.
There will be new faces in the lineup and some familiar ones, too. Mark Weir is in goal and the back line is very familiar with Jared Robbins and Uzi Tayou anchoring the center back positions.
Locals Blake Arndt and Ivan Quezada will suit up for the first time with FC Wichita.
Arndt is a 19 year old forward who recently returned home after completing his freshman year at the University of Central Arkansas. FC Wichita expects big things from Arndt in 2019.
Quezada on the other hand is only 16 years old and today makes history by becoming the first homegrown academy player to dress for the clubs senior team. “Our academy players have worked hard and always believed in the path to the first team,” says Quezada. “I’m excited to represent all of them.”
Tulsa has their familiar faces with Gustavo Vargas, Aaron Ugbah, and Joseph Gilbert return for the Athletic.
FC Wichita has won five straight matches over the Athletic dating back to 2017. They’ve won back-to-back matches in Tulsa, also back to 2017.
FC Wichita will be traveling to Saint Louis, Missouri to play Saint Louis Club Atletico. That match will be played on May 19 at Saint Louis University High School.
