SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI — Thomas Wells scored his third goal in just two games but it came too late as FC Wichita was unable to climb out of a 2-0 hole. FC Wichita fell to Demize NPSL 2-1 on Thursday, May 30.

FC Wichita’s first loss of the season drops them to 0-1-3 on the season. They dropped to fourth in the Heartland Conference with three points.

FC Wichita came out with their patent attack in the opening third of the match but nothing found home. Central Arkansas’ Blake Arndt had a couple of header opportunities in the first 15 minutes of the match but they came up empty. Adam James put a rock off the left upright but it veered off. Time after time, the opportunities were just a hair off.

It wasn’t until the 45th minute when Demize’s Gustavo Nascimento placed one by Paulo Pita. It was a nice play by Joao Mochado.

The Demize used the momentum right out of halftime to put another in off a rebound, giving Demize NPSL a 2-0 lead 46 minutes into the 46th minute.

From that point on, Demize did their best to maintain possession and limit FC Wichita’s opportunities. Changes came for FC Wichita, moving Thomas Wells for James Togbah early in the half, providing a fresh body up top.

Wells finally found the back of the net in the 88th minute, weaving through the backline of Demize and putting one inside the net for FC Wichita’s first and only goal.

James would leave the match after taking a head injury, the match was awarded five added minutes. FC Wichita pushed and pushed but could not come up with the equalizer.

FC Wichita returns home on June 8 looking for revenge against the Demize in a double header. The FC Wichita women’s club kicks off at 4 p.m., with the men starting at 7:30 p.m. at Stryker Stadium.
