WICHITA — The FC Wichita has chosen two players from the May 1st scrimmage to join the men’s senior club.

Tales Avila and Bobby Hopper both have been added to the roster.

Avila, 21, a defender from Cloud County Community College, he was named all-KJCCC first team in 2018. In his two years at Cloud, Avila helped the Thunderbirds amass a 27-8-1 record, including the 2017 KJCCC Regular season Championship. The defender is from Minas Gerais, Brazil and is set to transfer to a four year university in the fall.

“I’m here to help FC Wichita win the championship,” Avila said. “I know they have a lot of supporters and I am excited to play in front of them.”

Hopper, 24, joins FC Wichita from Friends University. Hopped originally started out at Virginia Commonwealth and transferred to Friends in 2017. The defender was named the 2018 Defensive Player of the Year for Friends. Hopper was also named as a 2018 Honorable mention for the All-KCAC team. In high school, Hopper led Forsyth County, Georgia to an undefeated state championship in his junior season. That included a national ranking and becoming a West Point top 40 recruit.

I’m originally from Wichita,” Hopper said. “When I heard FC Wichita was a team, my main objective was to play for FC Wichita. After last season, after going through the ups and downs. The hard work has paid off and it’s just beginning.”
