WICHITA, July 14 — Six FC Wichita players have been named to multiple Heartland Conference All Conference teams. Five were named to the coach’s selection and two, Nelson Landaverde on both selections, were named to the fan, media and team voted team.

In the coach’s selection, Mark Weir, James Togbah, Leo Sosa and Landaverde were picked. Togbah and Sosa were unanimous selections. The coaches were not allowed to pick their own players, providing for impartial voting.

Mark Weir was picked in net. Weir has three clean sheets in the NPSL this season, including the 4-0 win over Saint Louis Club Atletico on Wednesday night, sending FC Wichita into the Heartland Championship on Saturday night. He has a GAA (goals allowed average) of 1.20. Over the last five matches, Weir’s GAA is 0.80.

Nelson Landaverde joined FC Wichita after being an All-Conference selection without scoring a single goal last season. This season, his selection comes as no surprise as he is tied for second in goals and is second overall when including the US Open Cup. He’s scored seven goals overall with six assists.

FC Wichita’s captain, Leo Sosa was also a unanimous selection for All-Conference from the coaches. While his goal totals weren’t the highest on the club, his impact was felt throughout the Heartland. From playing defense to leading fast breaks, Sosa is a man who does it all with no complaint. All of his hard work has shined as of late, he’s scored two goals and had two assists his last two matches.

James Togbah’s goal against Tulsa on June 10 might be the goal of the year. Togbah’s ability to stretch the field on the wings puts nightmare’s in the dreams of opposing coaches. While Togbah may not have played an entire season, joining FC Wichita midway through the year, he scored two stellar goals against Tulsa to flex his muscles. A converted defender, Togbah’s move to the front line has pushed defenses on their heels and pushed FC Wichita into the conference finals. Togbah was also one of three players that were named unanimous All-Conference selection.

Kapuan Mt. Carmel native, Thomas Wells, was named to the second team All-Heartland Conference. Wells is tied for second in NPSL goals for FC Wichita. His bicycle kick against Tulsa on May 26 is a golazo that’s unforgettable. He tried to top it off minutes later as he chipped it over the Tulsa Athletic goalkeeper, securing the 3-1 win. Currently, Wells has six goals and three assists through all competitions.

The fans and media, along with one team vote, were allowed on the NPSL website. There were three forwards, four midfielders, three defenders, and one goalkeeper. FC Wichita found three players on the All-conference selection. Uzi Tayou and Nelson Landaverde were named by the fans.

Uzi Tayou anchored FC Wichita’s back line all season. Tayou’s durability is key in his success. Despite being nicked up at times, Tayou returned time and time again to help FC Wichita’s defense. In 11 matches in the NPSL, when Tayou is on the pitch, FC Wichita is allowing a goal per match. He’s been apart of four clean sheets as FC Wichita’s GAA with Tayou on the field is 1.00.
