Tulsa’s Joe Garcia was handed two yellow cards in the first half and FC Wichita made their rivals pay in a 5-3 victory on Sunday, June 10.
With the victory, FC Wichita creates a lot of space atop the Heartland Conference table. FC Wichita has 18 points and the nearest club, Saint Louis Club Atletico, sits at 10 points. Tulsa is at nine points.
Joseph Ruiz scored in the eighth minute to give Tulsa an early 1-0 lead, similar to the scoring output in the first match on May 26.
Seconds later while the Tulsa fans were celebrating, James Togbah put a mishandled ball by the keeper into back of the net to level the match.
Franck Tayou scored his sixth goal, tied for the golden boot in the Heartland Conference, leveling the match once again at 2-2 off the corner of Togbah.
After picking up a yellow with an altercation with Andres Ochoa in the 36th minute, Joe Garcia took down Tayou in a dirty challenge, picking up his second yellow in the 45th minute.
FC Wichita made ’em pay for the yellow discretions.
Shortly out of the halftime break, Thomas Wells scored his third goal this season against Tulsa with a push behind the keeper and a sliding goal that slipped into the net for the 3-2 FC Wichita advantage.
Minutes later, Tobgah sent a rocket soaring into the upper 90 giving FC Wichita the 4-2 lead into the 60th minute. The golazo forced Tulsa to change out keepers as FC Wichita continued to press the 10-man Tulsa club.
After Tulsa got one back in the 66th minute, Leo Sosa turned in an FC Wichita moniker, a bicycle kick, off the woodwork and giving FC Wichita the 5-3 lead in the 85th minute.
FC Wichita now sits fifth in the NPSL Power rankings. They’re one of five teams who’ve reached max potential points. They’ll travel to Springfield, Missouri to play Demize NPSL on Saturday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. With a win over Demize and a Tulsa win over Saint Louis, FC Wichita will clinch the second straight Heartland regular season championship
