A current 10-game winning streak in the Heartland Conference dating back to last season has FC Wichita atop the table and inching closer to a second consecutive Heartland regular season championship.
To win that ‘ship, FC Wichita has to find their way through their rivals, Tulsa Athletic. With a win over Tulsa on Sunday, FC Wichita is all but assured the regular season crown. They’ll have to secure a single point over their final four matches to clinch. FC Wichita owns a six-point advantage over Tulsa heading into Sunday’s match.
FC Wichita is currently on a three-game winning streak against the Athletic with last year’s sweep and their 3-1 win over Tulsa earlier this season. FC Wichita is 5-2-0 all-time against Tulsa. FC Wichita is 1-2-0 all-time at home away against Tulsa.
Thomas Wells scored two goals as a substitute, including a spectacular bicycle kick, as FC Wichita came back from a 1-0 deficit to top the Athletic on May 26.
The Athletic is coached by Joey Ryan. He’s been at the helm in Tulsa for the last five seasons in Tulsa. Last season, Tulsa went 5-4-1 in the Heartland Conference. Ryan is 45-12-6 as the head coach in Tulsa.
Damieon Thomas is the leading goal scorer for Tulsa this season with four goals. They’re not a one man club as the Athletic as seven different players have dented the back of the net for Tulsa this season.
Tulsa’s form has faltered over the last couple of weeks as they’ve been away from home. Tulsa opened up their three-game road trip with a win over Demize NPSL but they’ve dropped games to FC Wichita and to Saint Louis Club Atletico.
