FC Wichita has signed Nelson Landaverde, an NPSL All-Heartland Conference first team selection in 2017.

Landaverde, originally from Santa Ana, El Salvador, moved to the United States at 10 years old. By his senior year in high school in Springdale, Arkansas, he earned Gatorade Player-of-the-Year award for the State of Arkansas.

Landaverde later attended nearby Neosho County Community College where he scored 33 goals in two seasons, adding many accolades included All-Conference, All-Region, and NJCAA All-American, before finishing college at Valparaiso University.

Last season Landaverde played for Wichita’s conference rivals Ozark FC, where he was selected to the All-Heartland Conference first team as a midfielder. FC Wichita’s staff is excited about the new signing.

“We obviously had plenty of opportunities to familiarize ourselves with Nelson,” CEO Blake Shumaker said. “He will compliment the returning attacking midfielders such as Matt Clare very well.”

“I am glad to be in Wichita,” Landaverde said. “Last season I gained a lot of respect for the club playing against FC Wichita. You could tell everyone plays freely and with a sense of pride. When your the opponent, all you hear is nothing but positives about the club. I am very excited to start the journey towards a championship.”
