In a Wednesday night friendly against non-affiliated Minneapolis FC the offense would find the net six times in a 6-0 win.
The goal scoring would start early in the 8th minute with Felipe Maia who’d slot home a breakaway after a great flick on from Kevin Ten-Eyck. Wichita would go up 1-0.
The net would be touched shortly after Wichita produced numerous chances by dominating possession. After a shot had found the arm of a Minneapolis FC defender, the referee whistled for a penalty kick. Billy Jeffrey would step to the spot and go straight down the middle, while the goalie went left to make it 2-0.
After continuing to control the pace of the game and possession, Wichita would be rewarded in the form of a corner. Felipe Maia would deliver a ball to Marco Gomez back post who’d bury the header in the 29th minute to put Wichita up a field goal, 3-0.
The next goal would come just before the half after Deri Corfe would make a run behind the defensive backline who thought Corfe was offsides. While Deri appeared to look at the assistant referee, realized he was on and took off for a breakaway then promptly dribbled around the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net in the 44th minute.
The halftime stoppage time would prove costly to Minneapolis FC as in the first minute of stoppage time Ueslei Silva the new signing would receive a gift from Corfe in the form of a back heel that left Silva with an open goal to make it 5-0 at the half.
The second half would see more new faces subbed on with multiple FC Wichita academy players who ranged from 15-16 years old. Immediately after being subbed on, the players made an impact and had numerous chances to score but to no avail. The goal would be less active in the second half for Wichita.
It would be another header back post that’d be the last goal for Wichita. In the 85th minute, Moises Claudio would prove his worth in what would’ve been a goal of the year candidate in a regular season game. Claudio would do a diving header that’d be buried on the top shelf to make it 6-0 for Wichita.
