Wichita, KS – FC Wichita has signed Chester, England, native, and Manchester City academy product Deri Corfe.
Corfe comes to FC Wichita as an 18 year old attacking midfielder with the goal of getting a degree and living the American dream. Although Corfe has distanced himself from England, he’s no stranger to being away from home. At just 12 years of age he joined Manchester City’s youth academy. Corfe quickly impressed the staff and was offered a residency opportunity where he lived until recently turning 18.
“We are excited to get Deri into training,” said CEO Blake Shumaker. “As a club we are always looking to bring in the best long term players. It’s important to us that they also have the ability to make a positive impact on youth players in our community.”
Being in Manchester City’s academy made Corfe the technical player that FC Wichita fans will certainly fall in love with. Corfe fought everyday against older and physically stronger players to develop his high speed of play. Now, at a not so small 6’1, Corfe seems to have a knack for quickly finding space behind the opponents midfielders, and in position to lead his team into attacking opportunities. FC Wichita sees Deri as a dual threat, leading not only through decisive passing and creative build up, but they also see his ability to challenge defenders 1v1.
“We intend to play an exciting attacking brand of soccer,” said Director of Soccer Larry Inlow. “We believe Deri will compliment our formations very well and help us achieve our goals.”
