In less than 24 hours, FC Wichita will play in the biggest outdoor soccer game in Wichita history. With the expansion landscape and growth of soccer in America, paired with FC Wichita’s future plans, it could also prove to be the most important home game ever played in Wichita, both indoor or outdoor.

After competing in the NPSL, many players get sent to the next level every year through the MLS draft or a contract overseas. The level of play and commitment to the game has already proven to develop many local youth players as well. This weekend in Chicago, FC Wichita trainers sent 6 players (11-14yrs) to fight for a spots on the U.S. Region II National Team.

“There has never been a better time to support this game locally”, said CEO Blake Shumaker. “We’ve done everything we can to position Wichita for success, all we need is for the 40,000+ local soccer fans to embrace it tomorrow. A win puts us into a regional semi-final, and a berth into the U.S. Open Cup next season! We hope to see a full crowd, there are only about 600 tickets remaining.”

So the stage is set, a conference championship game awaits local players and fans. The same fans who have waited over 17 years for a local soccer team to finish with a winning record. The last time it was done was the 97-98 season with the Wichita Wings indoor team that included FC Wichita coaches Larry Inlow, Jamie Harding, and Sammy Lane, only then as players. A win in the Conference Championship home game (Stryker Soccer Complex) tomorrow would find these gentlemen and FC Wichita only 4 wins away from a National Championship, and achieving something Wichita has never accomplished in this sport.

“When you operate a simple football club, you require players with a winning mentality. When you want to be a nationally recognized brand, you need stars. We have them, in fact we have 7 players on the roster who have already got national team caps with their country. We want to win and kick open the door right now! So much can come for our city from just one result tomorrow.” – Blake Shumaker
